Lucid In-Vehicle Experience (LIVE) - UX 3.0

My Role: Lead Product Designer + Product Design Manager

As design lead for Gravity, I oversaw experiences spanning in-car systems and mobile. My work included defining interaction models, setting design direction, and partnering cross-functionally to ensure a balance of innovation, usability, and delight.

Starting as a Lead Product Designer and later transitioning into a manager role, I helped the team expand from vision to production, carrying forward lessons from Air while creating scalable, fresh experiences unique to Gravity.

In modern life, a car is much more than a vehicle; it is an intimate space that is key to our well-being. Particularly since the start of the EV revolution, manufacturers are beginning to understand that the sensory experience of driving goes far beyond mechanics. Lucid is leading the way in converting that realization into inspiring car interiors.

Design Intent

As we began to define the user experience for Gravity and inspire the shift to green mobility, we applied our design principles to create experiences that generate awareness, confidence, and excitement. Our intent wasn’t only to make our UX engaging and our UI beautiful, it was also to make them both simple and quiet - to enhance the overall driving experience without adding distractions. Our ultimate aim is to empower drivers, not overwhelm them.

Power of multitasking

My Role: Lead Product Designer + Product Design Manager

Multitasking provides the freedom to do more without added distraction. From the updated Home screen on the right side of the ClearView Cockpit, drivers can glance at Navigation, Media, and Phone while using the Pilot Panel for richer interactions. Passengers can also access all vehicle apps on the Pilot Panel without disrupting the driver, creating a more flexible and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Ergonomic Pilot Panel placement supports deeper engagement, like detailed searching, while other apps are active

Monitor turn-by-turn directions at a glance on the ClearView Cockpit, while passengers look for a new song on the Pilot Panel

See your tunes on the ClearView Cockpit while exploring where you can drive with your current charge using the range map on the Pilot Panel

In many new vehicles, bigger, flashier displays mean physical buttons, knobs, and stalks are disappearing. LIVE proves there is a better way: the incorporation of both in creative, customizable ways.

While our expansive touch displays put all our features at drivers’ fingertips, our physical controls lets drivers stay focused, keep both hands on the wheel, and complete all their important tasks without ever having to look at or touch a screen.

The result: interactions that are so seamless and natural - almost instinctive- drivers can just focus on enjoying their drive.

Lucid Spaces offer an immersive escape into California landscapes. Feel the breeze through climate controls, hear soothing sounds all around you, and enjoy beautiful video paired with dynamic ambient lighting as your seat massages your tension away.

Mindfulness

Rest and rejuvenate with bespoke guided meditation classes from Meditopia. Ergonomic seat position and massage, subdued ambient light, and relaxing videos help promote mindful breathing and full-body relaxation.

On Stage

Your cabin becomes a lively, intimate concert venue where you can enjoy your favorite tunes and even sing karaoke with your loved ones, making your heart pound and your spirit soar, enhanced with synced ambient lighting and immersive surround sound.
